Getting to Nepal

Time format
Nepal is 5 hours 45 minutes a head of GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and approximately 12 hours and 50 minutes a head of Pacific Time.

Required travel Documents

It is the traveler's own responsibility to obtain passport and travel visa. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended return date. The travelers is responsible for providing us the correct complete and accurate information about personal details including physical disabilities so that no one finds difficulties during travel.

Money and Credit Cards

Payment can be made in foreign exchange in hotels, travel agencies and airlines. Credit cards such as American Express, Master and Visa are widely accepted at major hotels, travel agencies, shops and restaurants. Atm lounges are available anywhere.

By Air

Kathmandu is served by direct flight to/from Amsterdam, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Moscow, Vienna, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai, Karachi, Kolkota, Banglore, Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Varanasi, Dhaka, Malaysia, Paro (Bhutan), Lhasa (Tibet) Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai (China) and Osaka (Japan) and many more.

Visas
Tribhuvan International Airport is the only international airport of Nepal. Immigration Office, TIA (Tribhuvan International Airport) under Department of Immigration has been facilitating tourists flying to Nepal by providing Visa on Arrival. 'On Arrival' visa procedure is very quick and simple. You can expect some queues during peak Tourist season. If you wish to skip those queues, you can also consider getting Visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions stationed abroad prior to your arrival.
 If you have obtained visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions, then you must enter Nepal within six months from the visa issued date. Your total stay is counted starting from the day you enter into Nepal.

Visas obtained on Arrival at the Entry and Exit points are 'Tourist Visas'.  They bear multiple Re entry facility. Tourist Visa 'On Arrival' is the only entry visa to Nepal. If you are visiting Nepal for the purposes other than Tourism (sightseeing, tour, travel, mountaineering, trekking, visiting friends and families), you should still get ' Tourist Visa' to get into the country.  However, you must change the category of visa as per your purpose and length of stay in Nepal from Department of Immigration by producing required documents.

Nationals of designated countries are requested to acquire Visa prior their arrival from their nearby Diplomatic missions (Embassies/consulates) of Nepal Government.  
Please follow these simple procedures for Tourist Visa on Arrival at the airport (TIA)  if you have not acquired Visa prior to boarding the plane.

1st  Step

  • Fill in ' Arrival Card '
  • Fill in Online ‘Tourist Visa ‘form ( you can fill it up  prior to your arrival  visiting our official website  Department of Immigration / fill it up using Kiosk machines upon your arrival at the airport).  If you fill it from the website, you will get submission Receipt with barcode, please print it out and bring it along for acquiring visa. It works for fifteen days and becomes invalid then after.  If so, you will have to fill it up again.


2nd  Step  

  • Make payment  at the bank according to your visa requirement ( 15/30/90 Days)
  • Get the receipt-While you can use different modes of payments (at visa fees collection counter), we advise you to carry some cash to be on the safe side.


On Arrival Visa Fee

30 Days – 40 USD
90 Days – 100 USD

3rd Step  
o Proceed to the Immigration Desk with your online form,  payment receipts and your passport

o Hand in your documents to immigration officer for visa processing. He/she issues visa to you upon his/her satisfaction.

By Land
All visitors entering Nepal by land can enter through the following routes-Kakarbhitta, Birjung, Sunauli, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, Mahendranagar on the Nepal-India border and Kodari on the Nepal-China border. But has to carry on a valid recognition paper documents during travel.

The best time to visit Nepal

As Nepal is a tourism country , it does not have certain season for travelers to travel Nepal.Nepal has four different season namely Summer, Winter, Spring and Autumn. There is never problem with the season to visit Nepal because Nepal has diverged geographical region foe which certain place can be visited in certain season, so throughout the whole year travelers can travel. 

But people say spring and autumn are the best times for visiting Nepal, since the weather tends to be moderate and stable, with clear skies. But Nepal welcomes tourist throughout the year.



Main Seasons

Winter (between December – February): The weather is cool and the sky is crystal clear with occasional snowfalls at higher elevations. This season is good for trekking in lower elevations. The morning and night is cold and the days are warm when sunny. Winter is  cold weather at higher elevations. Treks in the lower Himalayan foothills are perfect in winter.

Spring (between March – May): The temperature is mildly warm in low lands while moderate in higher altitudes with plenty of opportunities to have tryst with the mountain views. Spring is a popular time to go trekking in Nepal, as temperatures climb steadily and the weather tends to be more stable. Trails are more crowded, however, and the skies can be a bit hazy at times. Spring features great festivals, including Holi (festival of color ) in March and Nepalese New Year in April. It is also the time for flowers to blossom and the national flower of Nepal – rhododendron sweeps the ascending altitudes with its magnanimous color and beauty.


Summer (between June – August): This is also the monsoon season in Nepal. The weather is hot and wet at times. It rains almost everyday with occasional thunderstorms. The rain spreads the pleasantness around with lush green vegetation. This season most trekking areas seeing cloudy skies and rain. Choose a trek at this time of year, such as Upper Mustang and Manang.


Autumn (between September – November): This is the best tourist season in Nepal with the summer gone by and the winter to set in. The weather is highly pleasant so are the mountain views. Autumn is the most popular trekking season because the weather is usually stable, temperatures are moderate, and skies tend to be clear. Since the weather conditions are at their best, the crowds are at their peak as well. This is the peak season for trekking as mountain views are guaranteed so better book your flight in advance. This is also the season of festivities as Nepal celebrates the biggest Hindu festivals Dashain followed by Tihar.
